Why this matters
The advertised starting price is rarely the price you pay at scale. These are the costs buyers most commonly encounter after signing — ones that aren't prominently disclosed on the pricing page.
Active profile billing catches teams off guard
Klaviyo bills on all active profiles — contacts who have not unsubscribed or been suppressed. Teams with large, low-engagement lists pay for contacts they never email. Regular list suppression is essential cost management.
No annual discount
Unlike most competitors, Klaviyo is monthly-only with no annual billing discount. What you pay in month 1 is what you pay every month.
SMS credits are separate and expire monthly
SMS credits do not roll over. If you buy a large bundle and don't use it, it is gone at month end. International SMS costs significantly more than US rates.
Klaviyo One surcharge
Once your plan exceeds $10,000/month, you are automatically required to join Klaviyo One, which adds a 20% surcharge to your total monthly spend.

Negotiation Reality

What we know

Klaviyo has very little negotiation flexibility at standard tiers — pricing is transparent and self-serve. Klaviyo One enterprise contracts have more room, especially on multi-year deals. The main cost lever is list hygiene: suppressing inactive profiles before your billing cycle resets is the most effective way to control costs. Competing quotes from Omnisend or ActiveCampaign can occasionally move things at the enterprise level.

  • Ask at end-of-quarter — sales reps have monthly and quarterly targets
  • Get competing quotes before your first call
  • Ask specifically about first-year discounts vs. renewal rates
  • Request a multi-year rate even if you plan to buy one year
